How DO I Remove the W32/Infector.G8 Virus?

The "W32/Infector.G8" is not only one of the most annoying, but also one of the most difficult to remove viruses that you can get on a Windows PC. This is typically characterized by the virus continually redirecting the various search results you may bring up on your screen, and also showing popup ads as well. This infection is very common on computers around the World, and this tutorial is going to show you how to remove it:

Many people call this virus the "Google Redirect Virus" because of the way it's continually redirecting your search results on Google & other search engines; and one of the most prominent characteristics it has is that it's extremely difficult to remove from your PC. The problem is that this infection actually acts in a totally different way than most typical viruses you'll get on your Windows system. Most "normal" viruses will actually have an application / file that will continue to run on your system. Whereas this will just change a few settings on your computer, and make your system, making it very difficult for typical antivirus programs to remove it.

The way the search engine redirect virus works is to basically alter the settings that all Windows computers use to redirect your search traffic. Each time you click a link in Google / Yahoo / Bing, it will take you though a special link on the search engine, which will then redirect you to the page you want. This is used to track all the metrics for the various search phrases on the site. The W32/Infector.G8 will actually take this "natural" redirect and then send it to some fake advertising website or another search engine, with the aim of making the hackers who created it some money.

Removing this virus can be quite difficult if you don't know how to remove it properly. The issue is that since this infection just changes a few settings on your PC, most antivirus programs are not able to identify it, let alone remove it. The best way to get rid of it is to use a program called "ComboFix", which will look at the files it has infected and fix them. You can download ComboFix from a selection of trusted download sites, and use it relatively easily to remove this virus. After you've used it, you should then look at using a "registry cleaner" program to further clean out any possible damaged / corrupt settings that could be on your system. This is recommended, as many variants of the W32/Infector.G8 will actually leave a lot of registry settings on your PC, waiting to reinstall the virus.
